Housing benefit helps you with your housing costs if you are on a low income.
It can help with rent and some service charges. You could qualify for this help whether you are in or out of work, it depends on your income. If your housing benefit doesn’t cover all your rent, you’re still responsible for paying the full amount.
Your Housing Benefit or Universal Credit may be reduced if you are considered to be under-occupying your property. This is sometimes referred to as “bedroom tax”.
If you can’t claim Housing Benefit, you may be eligible for Universal Credit to help with your rent.
