Mixenden tenants take to the skies

FLY!, a kite festival organised by Handmade Parade and part funded by Newground Together, a charity that’s part of the Together Housing Group,  saw children making kites, playing in kite themed mazes and watching professional kite fliers perform dazzling displays.

The event is part of a series of Newground funded activities across the North of England that sees children getting outside and taking part in fun, active events.

Together Housing tenant Maggie, who attended with her daughter, said the event provided a fun activity for the whole family: “We caught the bus up from Mixenden, made a kite and then got to fly it alongside people who were flying giant kites that looked like cats, teddy bears and sea creatures. The weather was lovely, so it was good fun.”

Peter Jordan, Communities Director at Newground Together, said the activity was a soaring success: “It was great to see the sky filled with kites, but even better to know that this was just part of a whole programme of activities. Handmade Parade has already visited Reach Out, our youth project in Pellon, to make kites that young people could take up on the day and Newground Together are also funding outdoor activities in Lancashire to show young people that every season can be an outdoor season.”
