Jackie McGrew reaches National Final

Together Housing would like to offer their hearty congratulations to tenant Jackie McGrew after she deservedley won the Tenant of the Year Award at the North region Tenant Participatory Advisory Service (TPAS) Awards 2018. Jackie has been recognised as a dedicated volunteer after spending 21 years turning life around for residents in her local community of Whitebirk.

Jackie's journey began in 1997 when she realised that the estate she was once proud of, was now falling apart. Since then Jackie's commitment and passion has seen her offer a lifeline of support to her local community at the Whitebirk 2000 Centre.

Together Housing staff have supported Jackie's hard work over the years and nominated her for the Tenant of the Year Award. Jackie was shortlisted as a finanlist alongside nine other nominees and attended the Awards Ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester on Friday 16th March where she was presented with the fantastic award.

Jackie said: "I was so worried about letting people down, but then I heard them announce my name and I just put my head in my hands. I couldn't believe it. The people sat around me were shouting, clapping and banging on the tables congratulating me.

"When I walked towards the stage people were cheering for me, some even reaching out to shake my hand - it was absolutely lovely. I still can't believe that I won the award, it's been such a shock and I'm still taking it in. I didn't go to the ceremony expecting to win, but I left with a beautiful award and now I'm through to the National Final.

"You don't realise the impact of your work when you take it in your stride each day, but winning this award has made me so proud of myself. I love volunteering because I love helping people. I haven't only won this award for myself, but I've won it for the Whitebirk 2000 Centre."

Jackie has now reached the National Final which will take place in Warwickshire on Thursday 12th July 2018, where she will be up against three other finalists for the National Tenant of the Year Award.
