Gas Safety Week 2018

Gas Safety Week 2018

Gas safety is important all year round, but it is not always a household’s top priority. This week, we are proud to be supporting Gas Safety Week (17th-23rd September 2018) by raising awareness about the importance of gas safety.

Ever year, poor gas work and faulty or old appliances cause approximately 40 accidental deaths and more 200 non-fatal injuries in England and Wales. Over 4,000 people also attend A&E diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning.

This is why it is so important that you stick to your appointments for your annual boiler checks. As your landlord, we are responsible for maintaining your gas boiler. The annual boiler check is a FREE service to our tenants which puts your safety first.

Bill Atkins, Property Manager, says: “Last year over 14, 500 repairs appointments were missed by our tenants, almost three quarters of these were for gas servicing.

“Failing to keep your boiler service up to date not only compromises your own safety, but also puts friends and family visiting your home at risk, as well as your neighbours.

“Aside from keeping safe, it’s a good idea to make sure your boiler is regularly maintained in preparation for winter. A serviced boiler is more efficient, providing hotter water at a lower cost.”

On average, missed appointments cost us £300,000 a year. This is money that could be spent improving our services to you and maintaining our existing properties, as well as providing new affordable housing for low income families. A cost to us is a cost to you.

If you are unable to make your gas servicing or repairs appointment, please contact your Customer Services Centre to rearrange.
