Edith Locke celebrates 102nd birthday

Edith Locke celebrates 102nd birthday

Together Housing resident Edith Locke had a splendid afternoon celebrating her 102nd birthday at a crafts and cake afternoon at the extra care scheme, Willow Court, where she lives.

Flowers were delivered to the birthday girl, who celebrated her special day on Tuesday 12th July at Willow Court’s weekly arts and crafts club. Edith shared refreshments and birthday cake with other residents at the scheme, with special thanks to Social Committee Chairperson June Baume for organising the celebration.

Party games and card games were played by the residents; they also enjoyed getting stuck into some arts and crafts. Edith received an unbelievable amount of birthday cards from all around the world and was thankful to share the day with her friends at Willow Court.

Edith says: “I don’t like to think of myself as 102, because I feel no different to when I was 82. I still do all of my own washing, cleaning, shopping and ironing. I attend different functions at Willow Court, including the Oomph fitness session.”

Housing Support Officer Sarah Boocock says: “We had a wonderful afternoon celebrating Edith’s very special 102nd birthday at Willow Court, the other residents were overjoyed to share this moment with Edith.

“Like Edith says, you’re only as old as you feel. Edith shared fond memories with us of having her hair cut into an Etop crop back in the twenties. Although Edith won’t admit it, she was a very glamorous lady back in her youth and still is today.

“We’re looking forward to hosting a joint birthday party with another tenant on the scheme on the 21st July, where there will be entertainment provided for the guests. Showing just how kind-hearted she is, Edith has requested that any of her party guests who would like to give her a present, gives a contribution to Overgate Hospice instead.”
