Mytholm Meadows residents take part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning

Mytholm Meadows residents take part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning

Residents at Mytholm Meadows in Hebden Bridge rolled up their sleeves to whisk up some sweet treats in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Residents of the supported housing scheme hosted their Macmillan Coffee Morning on Thursday 28th September, in the company of Lloyds Banking Group volunteers.

Residents gathered in their communal lounge to catch up over a cuppa whilst fundraising for the fantastic cause. Staff and residents donated cakes and sweet treats, with a special thank you to regular volunteers Susan, Elaine, Adam and Linda who donated a number of impressive bakes. Residents joined in guessing games and a raffle, as well as inviting volunteers from Lloyds Bank to join in the fun.

Lloyds Banking Group’s volunteering programme encourages colleagues to spend at least one day per year volunteering with a charity or community of their choice. After helping with the cake sale, the volunteers made the most of the sunshine and helped with a number of gardening tasks, including weeding flower beds, planting spring bulbs and spray painting tables and benches. Residents were extremely grateful for the generous work of the volunteers. Pauline Walker, Together Housing’s Wellbeing Coordinator, said: “We are lucky to have a dedicated team of coffee morning volunteers who put in a special effort every year to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Having the Lloyds Bank volunteers with us this year has been the icing on the cake! They worked really hard and the gardens are looking so much better for it.”

As well as a successful day of garden renovations, the residents’ own generosity made the cake sale a great success, raising an incredible £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Pauline said: “These fundraising events are a great way to bring our community together; we all have a great time whilst raising money for a cause we all feel very passionately about.”

Macmillan Coffee Mornings are Macmillan’s biggest fundraising events for people facing cancer, thanks to thousands of people across the UK hosting their own Coffee Mornings and donating to the cause. Last year Macmillan raised £29.5million from Coffee Mornings alone, helping to support the 2.5 million people in the UK currently living with cancer.

Mytholm Meadows is an Extra Care scheme, where residents live independently in their own homes with the peace-of-mind of care on site 24 hours a day.
