Barnsley fun runners take a generous attitude to working out

Lavender Court residents have enjoyed a number of visits from a group of fun runners eager to make a difference in their local community.

GoodGym Group Runs take place weekly in Barnsley, where fun runners take a generous attitude to working out. The group meet at Shaw Lane Sports Club each Tuesday where they run to local community projects, volunteer their spare time for a good cause and then run back - all within 90 minutes!

The first of multiple adventures at Lavender Court saw the 16-strong GoodGym crew run to the Extra Care scheme and clear an overgrown patch of garden, turning over soil in preperation for the residents to do some planting as part of their garden development plan. Residents were on board to keep the group company and oversee the gardening duties with great excitement.

The group of runners soon returned to transform the garden of soil to a beautiful flower patch. Pansies and violas were used to line the patch, with roses and daffodils forming a centrepiece ready to flower in time for spring.

Stuart, a resident, said: "It's wonderful that these young people have given up their time to help us with this project, we would have struggled to get things started without them."

Egg Cameron, GoodGym trainer, said: "GoodGym aims to get people active and reduce social isolation. As well as the Group Runs, we also do 'Missions' which are one-off tasks to help people aged 60 and over with tasks in their homes or gardens. We love getting involved in the local community and are always looking for new projects."
