A couple from South Kirkby have found a hobby they enjoy after using their creativity to reuse old items.

Resident Lia Hogg loves to get creative and upcycle second hand furniture, with the help from her husband Terry.

For example, the couple were given, by a neighbour, a cupboard that originally was plain. Lia used a plastic bag dipped in paint to add a unique and interesting pattern to the cupboard doors. They also used old drawers to make shelving in the kitchen as an easy way to display their family china!

Terry has even followed Lia’s creative lead and has created his own house number sign out of pebbles and helped to put together the cup and saucer plant pots in the garden.

“I am not sure how Lia’s mind thinks of these ideas,” said Terry, “but the results are always amazing!”

Lia added: “I find creating things easy, natural and I really enjoy it! It is a great way to relax and it is very good for the soul.

“The best thing is; anyone can do it. Everyone can use what you would at first think is just rubbish to make something new and useful. You can save money this way as well as helping the environment.”

Lia’s dream is to one day have a workshop, where she can produce and sell her creative projects professionally. She has also started planning her creative projects for next year.

Lia said: “I have already started planning out what I would like to create next year! I have bought a welder and uniform and I look forward to learning how to weld beautiful metal art. I can’t wait!”
