Together Housing builds to tackle housing crisis

Together Housing is making a New Year’s resolution to help relieve the housing crisis, through a programme of new and completing developments.

Together Housing, one of the largest housing associations in the North of England, is spending 2018  building more homes for affordable rent but also for shared ownership, helping those who can’t afford a full mortgage get on the property ladder.  They are building a further handful of homes for market sale, ploughing the money back into housing services to support those most in need.

The developments include developments in Hull, Barnsley, Lancashire, Doncaster and 500 homes as part of a major investment in Calderdale.

As well as offering homes to address the pressing need for affordable housing, many of the sites have also offered opportunities for skills development.  Together Housing’s work in Crsss Green, Leeds, has been helping rehabilitate prisoners by training them in construction skills and the group’s work with apprentices  in Salford, Greater Manchester, has won several major awards.

Hilary Brady, Head of Development at Together Housing Group, said that 2018 would be an important year for housing: “It’s no secret that there is a need for housing across the North of England and, in 2018, we’ll be involved with the development of several thousand new homes.

“Our new partnership for joint ventures with Kier has paid off and we’re looking closely at how contributing to market sales homes can help support our work delivering affordable housing.

“Having a home you can afford is important to everyone, but it means different things to different people.  Whether you need affordable long term lettings with no bond or want help getting on the property ladder, our approach is making a difference to people right across Hull.”
