Empty home contract awarded to local social enterprise

We're pleased to be bringing an empty home back into use by appointing a local social enterprise to carry out a full transformation of works. The property, on Eaves Avenue in Hebden Bridge, has been empty for six months, with a large range of issues and repairs identified.

After the property became empty in September, the tender to bring the property back to life was awarded to Happy Days Building and Roofing, a social enterprise building company based in Sowerby Bridge, who will start work on 25th February.

As a social enterprise, the work of Happy Days Building & Roofing supports their parent charity, with profits from their construction work helping to fight homelessness in the United Kingdom. The role of the company is to provide both a premier building and roofing service, but also help homeless people with accommodation, work and a new purpose in life.

The house will be undergoing a full renovation including the kitchen and bathroom, rewiring, central heating, plasterworks throughout, new woodwork, tanking and damp proofing.

Happy Days set up communities across Yorkshire which offer safe accommodation and provide unconditional, practical and social support to bring about new hope for individuals.

Stephen Keenan, Director at Happy Days, commented: “It’s great to be working with such a large local institution like Together Housing, and we can’t wait to bring this property back to the high standards they expect. Revitalising the existing housing stock in Calderdale is just as, if not more important than building new homes, and it’s our pleasure to help with that.”

Claire Webster, Repairs Team Coordinator at Together Housing, says: “We are excited to start work on this project with Happy Days, and look forward to seeing the final product.”
