Affordable homes in Harworth back on track

Affordable homes in Harworth back on track

We are working to boost skills and affordable homes in an area where the average worker couldn’t afford to buy, as part of a project with EN:Able Build.

The project at Harworth, Bassetlaw, sees work start six years after the site was earmarked for development for private sale. Now, thanks to an agreement with not-for-profit housing provider EN:Able build, 24 homes are to be built for affordable rent. The provider, a subsidiary company of Efficiency North Group, will work with EN:Able Futures, another part of the group, to deliver apprenticeships as part of the build.

Our Head of Project Management, Keith McFarlane, says the development meets local needs: “The average home in Doncaster is over six times the mean annual salary. The average worker in the area would need a 42% pay rise to be able to afford a mortgage. So it is fantastic that this stalled site which originally planned homes for private sale will now be made available for affordable rent, providing good quality affordable homes in this neighbourhood.”

EN:Able’s Head of Operations, Andy Brown, says the project is just the start: “Our goal is to develop at least 1,000 affordable homes that and this deal gets us off to a fantastic start. We worked hard to come up with a solution that brought the development into the affordable homes sector and we are proud to have played a key part in making it all happen”.
