Support for mental health in Calderdale

Healthy Minds is Calderdale’s local mental health charity, led by people who have personal experience of mental distress.  It offers a range of free services to help people overcome obstacles and maintain good mental health.

Peer support groups cover particular mental health issues and promote wellbeing.  Support groups are generally held twice per month in community venues across Calderdale.  There are also several activity groups giving people who have experience of mental distress the opportunity to come together to socialise in shared activities.

Courses and workshops explore issues such as managing anxiety, building confidence and self-esteem.

The charity’s specialist project, Roshani, works with people from different ethnic backgrounds to increase awareness of mental health issues and challenge stigma.

Healthy Minds can also help people overcome financial worries through support on welfare rights, debt and employment support.

The charity is about to launch two new projects: Safespace will offer out-of-hours support for people approaching mental crisis, and Time Out is a new initiative to support young people’s emotional wellbeing.
