Shadsworth residents take pride in their community

Blackburn residents were encouraged to take pride in their community at the Shadsworth Community Action Day.

On Saturday 3rd November, Together Housing and Newground staff helped Shadsworth residents have an active role in improving their estate as they got together for a big clean up event.

The day involved a range of fun D.I.Y. activities including bulb planting with Newground Horticulture staff, biscuit making with Lancashire Adult learning and face painting and crafts provided by the Young People’s Service.

As well as having a positive environmental impact, the main focus was to increase the use of the Hub at Shadsworth by local residents. Newground took the opportunity to engage attendees with their More Positive Together programme, a European funded project that supports individuals into employment, education and training.

Adam Doyle, Sustainable Communities Co-ordinator for Newground, said:

“The community action day was a massive success, with staff giving up their own time to man skips and activities within the Hub.

“As soon as the skips arrived the estate was a hive of activity, with residents being able to clear any unwanted rubbish.

“The general feel of the day was of a community who wanted to make a difference on their estate and it was amazing to see the Hub full of local residents engaging in activities.”
