Saving energy and money

Recently, Together Housing and Kensa Contracting held a coffee morning, thanking residents for their cooperation as heating upgrade works in their homes and the community room had come to a successful end.

Coffee Morning

Residents from Upper Brig Royd in Calderdale are some of the first Together Housing tenants to receive this modern form of heating and have a ground source heat pump installed in their home. These pumps are a form of renewable energy that uses heat from the ground to provide central heating and hot water to residents while also saving them money.

Before the works were completed, residents only form of heating were electrical storage heaters. These are outdated, costly to run and difficult to keep at comfortable temperature levels, especially in winter months. Storage heaters also use a lot of energy, something that we’re working hard to reduce in our properties.

A project like this can be complex to deliver and requires tenants’ full understanding and sign up to the new technology and associated disruption. Not to mention the fact that our tenants at Upper Brig Royd remained in their homes while the works were carried out.

June Wilson, a resident of Upper Brig Royd said; “The workmen that carried out the work were all lovely, they made every effort to make sure we were as settled as possible. It was a long process but Together Housing and Kensa did everything they could to make sure any issues we had were sorted.

“The new heating system is amazing, before it was so difficult to heat up more than one room in my home but now I don’t have to worry about that.”

We’d like to say a big thank you to all the residents that worked with us to make the installation of the ground source heat pumps run as smoothly as possible.
