Needlers Way hold summer fete

Needlers Way hold summer fete

Residents at Needlers Way housing estate in Hull opened their doors once again for their Annual Summer Garden Fete. Organised by the Needlers Way Residents’ Association, 132 residents of all ages came together for a day of fundraising activities, celebrating their diverse community.

The Summer Fete proved a hit with teas and coffees flying off the table. Scones topped with fresh whipped cream, strawberry jam and fresh strawberries were popular amongst residents, with crisps and soft drinks also available.

The day of activities included entertainers and face painters from Hull Party Services, who provided a number of games and dancing competitions. Throughout the games children won prizes donated by Hull Party Services, and the fun didn’t stop there – Spider Man and Batman even made special appearances. When the dancing had stopped, a balloon modeler was on hand to keep the crowds entertained.

Carole Denby, fundraiser for Needlers Way Residents’ Association, said that socialising was key for the day of fun: “it is about being social and holding a great event for the diverse community that we live in. It was great to see the local community mixing together, and children playing happily together. A general camaraderie was evident all day long.”

Whilst entertainment for children was aplenty, the tombola stall proved a treat for the adults. With a selection of chocolate and wines, Marks and Spencer gift vouchers and tool kits amongst the popular prizes, the kind donations of local businesses made the tombola a success. Donations from Together Housing Group and the Council Initiatives Fund helped to fund the event and extra support from The Vault was greatly received. The Vault is a ‘borrowing library’ that loans free equipment to charity and community groups across Hull, they were able to provide a number of gazebos, chairs and tables, extension leads and games which all helped to make the magic happen.

Needlers Way Residents’ Association is a scheme which arranges events within its community, and works hard to encourage local residents to get involved and take pride in their estate.
