Hit squad ready to crack down on Bonfire Night

With Bonfire Night approaching Newground, part of Together Housing Group, has teamed up with Blackburn with Darwen Council to safely dismantle and remove unauthorised fires in the borough.

Bonfire Press Release 1

The hit squad are urging Blackburn residents to report any concerns about any ‘bonfire’ or build up of waste that could be set alight to the council. This will allow the council to take steps to remove the hazard if on council land or pass the details on to the fire service.

Steve Greenwood, Director of Landscapes and Estate Services at Newground, said: “This initiative to remove unauthorised bonfires is a great example of how we work with partners to tackle anti-social behaviour and keep our communities safe.

“By choosing to attend only well organised, official events you can enjoy the bonfires and fireworks while keeping people, property and vital resources safe.”

James Rawlings, Contracts, Policy and Performance Officer at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “Working together with various organisations and authorities, we aim to reduce the risk of harm to the public and property by removing unmanaged illegal bonfires.”

To support the initiative members of the public who have concerns over bonfires in their community are asked to call 01254 585921.
