Enterprise Centre breathes new life into Shadsworth

shad hubThe £4million Shadsworth Enterprise centre is starting to breathe new life into the community.

The Together Housing Group, with additional funding from the Homes and Communities Agency, are redeveloping an area of Ballantrea Road, Ayr Road and Rothesay Road to remove the existing buildings including the former community centre, and replace them with a brand new Enterprise Centre.

The new centre will provide space for five retail units on the ground floor, with a communal hub above one of the retail units:

It is intended that the activities that will take place in the communal facility will include:

  • Social group gatherings such as friendship clubs, breakfast clubs, dads club, community learning kitchen;
  • Activities for toddlers and teenagers;
  • Dance classes;
  • Health and fitness classes
  • Small scale sporting/games activity – eg pool, table tennis, indoor bowls etc;
  • IT Facility - work preparation activity – job clubs, interviews etc;
  • Health interventions – exercise groups – counselling – advice sessions;
  • Public meetings – PAC, Neighbourhood meetings, TARA etc;
  • Children’s events – birthday parties for instance – homework club – young people’s interests groups such as cubs, scouts etc.

There will also be 20 new homes, which will be available for affordable rent, built on the site as part of the development. The whole project is expected to be ready by the beginning of 2017.
