Changes to online rent payments

From 14th September 2019, customers paying their rent online by using the allpay website might be asked to provide two types of authentication for some payments. A new banking regulation comes in on that date to help fight online fraud and increase the security of payments.

The change is designed to check that an online customer is who they say they are by adding extra security. The extra information might be a one-time password sent to the customer’s phone for them to enter into the payment website. Or it could be a request for an additional piece of information such as the customer’s place of birth.

The whole banking sector is making changes to meet the new regulation. If online shoppers spend more than about £27 in one payment, they will be required to provide extra information.
