Blackburn woman raises funds for Hospice in memory of her mum

A Together Housing resident from Blackburn has raised a whopping £1770 for a local hospice after the loss of her mother.

Donna Campbell, 48, brought together friends and family to raise the funds for the East Lancashire Hospice, which provided care for her mum.

Donna lost her mother, Monica Greenwood, in 2018 to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) which is a disease that heavily impacts the lungs. Monica had originally been born and raised in Ireland before living in Blackburn for 30 years.

Donna says: “The hospice were fantastic when they cared for my mum. Not only did they provide a home carer team so mum could stay at home, they also provided great emotional support for our whole family during a hard time.”

Together, Donna and her family ran a disco night which included a tombola and raffle. To help raise the money, they charged £5 a ticket for those who wanted to attend. Donna also approached Together Housing Group for a donation of a prize for the raffle, instead Together Housing donated £100 to the hospice.

This is not the first time Donna has raised money for the hospice, as just after her mother passed she asked friends and family to make donations rather than buy flowers. This managed to raise £1300 which brings the total amount she has donated to the hospice to £3070!

She says: “I think my mum would have been chuffed with the donations. This hospice helped her a lot and she would be over the moon to know people are helping to keep it open so others can access the same care she had.”

East Lancashire Hospice helps people in Blackburn, Darwen, Hyburn and Ribble Valley who are affected by serious illnesses to maintain a good quality of life. It needs over £9,500 a day in donations to keep services running effectively.
