Big Energy Saving week: Help to pay

This week is Big Energy Saving Week which is a national campaign run by Citizens Advice which aims to raise awareness of how people could save on their energy bills.

Help To Pay

If you are struggling to afford your energy bills you may be able to access certain benefits, grants and help offered by the government and energy suppliers.

Winter fuel payment

The Winter Fuel Payment is a one-off payment to help you pay for heating during the winter. If you were born before 5th April 1954 you could receive help with paying your heating bills.

Cold weather payments

Cold Weather Payments are one-off payments to help you pay for extra heating costs when it is very cold. You’ll get a payment if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below for 7 consecutive days.

You are eligible if you get pension credit, income support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit.
