National Apprenticeship Week 2019: Amy’s story

Hi, I’m Amy Lees, an Apprentice Works Planner for Together Housing Group. When I left school I decided to look for an apprenticeship, I found mine online and after a quick application I know work Monday – Friday emailing and ringing tenants and organising inspections and appointments, as well as completing my college work as part of my Business Administration qualification.

Being at school was a totally different environment, I was constantly told what to do and felt like I was always being watched. Now, I have much more freedom and even though I have jobs and tasks set for me, I’m trusted to be left alone to complete them. At Together Housing, there are always lots of different things to do and no two days are the same. I must say, the most challenging part of my job is dealing with customers who don’t always want to cooperate – but we always find a solution.

Since I began my apprenticeship I have learnt lots of new skills including different things on computers and ways of dealing with different types of people. I also think I’ve learnt a lot about myself and what direction I want to take in the future with my career and my life.

My goals are to stick with Together Housing, but I’d like to expand my career path and become a Neighbourhood Officer or secure a role in the Antisocial Behaviour Team.
